Tamil Nadu Bar Council suspends license of three lawyers on allegation of criminal complaints

New Delhi, July 16, 2021: The Tamil Nadu Bar Council has prohibited three lawyers from practicing as advocates in all Courts, Tribunals and other authorities in India either in their name or in any assumed name, until the disposal of disciplinary proceedings against them based on allegations pertaining to complaints under the NDPS Act and IPC charges.
By passing a resolution on July 12 in relation to the same, the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry issued notice and intimated prohibition of law practice by the three advocates on account of criminal complaints having been filed against them.
As per the notice, two advocates namely P Sathish and P Regivines have been prohibited from practicing on account of a complaint registered against them u/s 8(c) and 20(b)(II) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, at the Sankar Nagar Police Station, Chennai.
Similarly, the third advocate namely S Jothiraja is prohibited from practice on account of a complaint against him u/s 147, 148, 341, 294(b), 506(ii) & 120B of IPC including the offence of attempt to murder u/s 307. The Bar council noted that this advocate was also mentioned by the District Collector, Thoothukudi as ‘Goonda’ in a detention order under the Tamil Nadu Goondas Act.
