Punjab & Haryana HC adjourns cases amid Covid; bail pleas, habeas corpus petitions, etc. not to be adjourned

Chandigarh, July 31, 2021: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a circular ordering adjournment of cases already listed for hearing between July 31 and August 31. These cases will now be listed between October 29 and December 1.

The High Court, however, made it clear that anticipatory and regular bails, criminal revisions (bails) filed under section 102 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act, habeas corpus petitions, criminal writ petitions pertaining to protection of life and liberty, parole or premature release and application for the suspension of sentence irrespective of the year of their registration will not be adjourned.

Also, cases listed between July 31 and August 31 in urgent motion list will not be adjourned, said the circular dated July 29, 2021.

The cases which are listed after May 1, 2021 and all cases in which application for preponement has been allowed and are allowed between July 31 and August 31, will also not be adjourned.

In case of urgency of the cases which are fixed between July 31 and August 31 and will now be deferred, the counsel may move application for preponement of the cases, the circular said.
