Punjab and Haryana High Court confers ‘Senior’ designation on 19 advocates

Chandigarh, May 29: The Punjab and Haryana High Court today designated 19 lawyers as Senior Advocates. The list includes two women advocates.

The decision was taken at a full-court meeting held yesterday, said the notification issued by the High Court.

The notification listed the following 19 advocates who are now Senior Advocates:

The above mentioned lawyers have been designated as Senior Advocates subject to the condition that they would conduct 10 Free Legal Aid cases pro bono every, the High Court’s notification said.

As reported by The Tribune, total 113 advocates had applied for the senior designation. A committee set up by the Punjab and Haryana High Court had cleared the names of 27 advocates for designating them as seniors. 

After getting scanned by the “permanent committee for designation as senior advocates”, the 27 names were placed before the full-court meeting, out of which 19 names got cleared. 

The last list was cleared around 7 years back and so far, the High Court has designated over 200 advocates as seniors advocates.
