New Delhi, July 11: Four petitions were filed in the Supreme Court seeking a robust investigation into gangster Vikas Dubey’s encounter.

A PIL was filed in the Supreme Court by Advocate Anoop Awasthi seeking CBI/NIA/Court-monitored probe into the encounter killings of Vikas Dubey and his associates at different places in Uttar Pradesh after the gang killed eight policemen in Kanpur shootout, India Today reported.

Another petitioner, NGO PUCL, sought SIT investigation into Vikas Dubey’s encounter and a judicial probe into political nexus involved.

A letter petition was filed by Atal Bihari Dubey seeking probe into the alleged fake encounter by the UP Police.

A Mumbai-based lawyer, Ghanshyam Upadhyay, had filed a plea on Friday.

After the news of Vikas Dubey’s encounter broke out, a petition came up in the Supreme Court that sought protection for the gangster. The petitioner had demanded protection for Vikas Dubey saying several of his aides were killed in different “fake encounters” by the UP Police.

The petition in Supreme Court said Vikas Dubey’s associates and aides were all “killed in fake encounters”. Citing the number of the encounters over the past few days in which many of his aides were killed, the Mumbai-based petitioner sought protection for the gangster.

On Friday morning, Vikas Dubey was shot dead by police, who claimed he was trying to flee after the car carrying him on an overnight journey from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh turned turtle on an isolated stretch of the highway on the outskirts of Kanpur.
