Accessibility Committee of Delhi HC holds workshop on Sensitisation of Legal Professionals on Deaf-Blindness

New Delhi, September 25, 2024: The Accessibility Committee of the Delhi High Court headed by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rajiv Shakdher organized a workshop on ‘Sensitisation of Legal Professionals on Deaf-Blindness’ on Monday, September 23. The event, attended by judicial officers, advocates and court officials, was held at the premises of the Delhi High Court.

 

 

Deaf-blindness is a very rare kind of disability in which a person cannot see, hear and speak. Mr. Zamir Dhale (himself a deaf-blind), Founder of SEDB India assisted by his colleague Mr. Lion Sunil Abbas conducted the workshop, according to a press release shared by the Accessibility Committee.

 

During the workshop, Mr. Dhale informed the participants about his life journey and the challenging situations faced by him. Thereafter, he asked the participants to come on the stage, experience tactile sign communication and learn how to comfortably communicate with people like him.

             

 

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rajiv Shakdher, Chairman of Accessibility Committee of High Court of Delhi  attended the program and graciously interacted with Mr. Dhale, Mr. Abbas and the tactile sign interpreters accompanying them. The event started with the welcome address by Mr. Jay Thareja, Joint Registrar (Judicial) and ended with vote of thanks by Mr. Rahul Bajaj, a visually impaired advocate member of the Accessibility Committee of High Court of Delhi. 

 

The event sent out a message of 'inclusiveness' in the legal community of the High Court of Delhi and was appreciated by all the participants.
