New Delhi, July 10, 2021: The Bar Council of Delhi initiated disciplinary proceedings against a lawyer who allegedly forged a Covid-19 positive report to claim financial aid extended to Covid-affected lawyers.

According to a notice issued on July 9, 2021, the BCD found that the lab from which advocate Sonu Yadav had purportedly obtained a Covid-19 positive report confirmed that no such report was issued in his name.

The notice highlighted that the Covid report submitted by the advocate was fake and hence financial aid claimed on the basis of said report amounted to misconduct and forgery.

The BCD Chairman, Ramesh Gupta, observing the gravity of offence directed for constitution of a Special Disciplinary Committee to immediately investigate the issue to save the dignity and credibility of the institution, the notice said.

Therefore, it was decided until the Special Disciplinary Committee investigates and decides the matter, the advocate’s license to practice will remain suspended, as an interim measure.

The advocate was also directed to file his response before the Special Disciplinary Committee within seven days of receipt of the notice and to appear in person before the Committee on July 19.
